About Tricalcium Phosphate

Tricalcium phosphate (TCP) is the most calcium-rich of the food-grade calcium phosphates, containing 34–40% calcium by weight. Its chemical structure is that of hydroxyapatite — the mineral form found in bones and teeth — making it an excellent bioavailable calcium source for nutritional fortification. In food manufacturing, TCP serves primarily as an anticaking agent in powdered products, a pH buffer, and a calcium and phosphorus nutrient supplement. Its very fine particle size (≥95% through 75 μm) ensures uniform dispersion in dry blends and powder coatings. The E341(iii) designation covers TCP for use across a broad range of food categories under EU and international food additive regulations.

Applications

  • Anticaking agent in powdered foods, seasonings, and dry mixes
  • Calcium and phosphorus mineral fortification in food and beverages
  • pH buffering agent in food processing
  • Tablet and capsule excipient in dietary supplements and nutraceuticals
  • Animal feed mineral supplement
